The Four Winds Restrained

Ellen White says that an angry horse represents radical Islam, and that the four winds represent an angry horse. Thus radical Islam is represented by an angry horse and by the four winds (NB: The four winds also represent natural disasters). "Angels are holding the four winds, represented as an angry horse".

But notice that she links the four winds of Ezekiel 37:9 with the four winds of Rev 7:1, thus she is saying that these four winds in these 2 verses are exactly the same entity. "Angels are holding the four winds, represented as an angry horse seeking to break loose and rush over the face of the whole earth, bearing destruction and death in its path. Shall we sleep on the very verge of the eternal world? Shall we be dull and cold and dead? Oh, that we might have in our churches the Spirit and breath of God breathed into His people, that they might stand upon their feet and live." {20MR 217.1}. Please notice the wording used to describe the four winds here comes from both Ezek 37:9 and Rev 7:1, "Angels are holding the four winds" and "Shall we be dull and cold and dead? Oh, that we might have in our churches the Spirit and breath of God breathed into His people, that they might stand upon their feet and live." Notice also that these dead dry bones are in fact "our churches" or the Seventh-day Adventists, and that it is placed at the very end of the world, "on the verge of the eternal world".

So now we see that the Spirit and breath of God, which is the holy Spirit or the Latter Rain message at the end of the world, will come when militant Islam are loosed for just one moment, and then immediately restrained.

Just as the Third Woe will be radical Islam hurting then killing the army of Rome (America, Rev 13), the Four Winds are also radical Islam causing destruction and death around the world.

You can compare Rev 7:1-4 with Rev 9:3-4 to see that the 4 winds are radical Islam, as they hurt the same things when they are loosed. In fact the exact same language is used to describe the power in Rev 9:4 as is used to describe the power in Rev 7:3, hence the power is the same. This Bible principle can be seen when one compares Daniel 7:8 with Revelation 13:5. Both these verses describe a power that has "a mouth speaking great things", hence the power in Dan 7:8 is the exact same power as in Rev 13:5. There are several other such examples of this principle, for example Isaiah 40:3 describes one to come as "The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God", and the exact same language is used in Mark 1:3 to describe the same person, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight". Thus the power in Rev 7:3 is the same power in Rev 9:4, which we have seen is militant Islam.

So the four winds being held back is in fact militant Islam being restrained from causing destruction over the face of the whole earth. The four winds being restrained is the War on Terror.

Revelation 7:1-4, "And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand..."

Ellen White says that at some point in time, the four angels will almost let go of the four winds, but they are commanded to restrain them a little longer, so that the 144,000 can be sealed. Could this event be September 11th?

"I asked my accompanying angel the meaning of what I heard, and what the four angels were about to do. He said to me that it was God that restrained the powers, and that He gave His angels charge over things on the earth; that the four angels had power from God to hold the four winds, and that they were about to let them go; but while their hands were loosening, and the four winds were about to blow, the merciful eye of Jesus gazed on the remnant that were not sealed, and He raised His hands to the Father, and pleaded with Him that He had spilled His blood for them. Then another angel was commissioned to fly swiftly to the four angels, and bid them hold, until the servants of God were sealed with the seal of the living God in their foreheads." {CET 102}

What event was it that caused the four winds to almost be loosed upon the earth? Just as it fit the description of the Third Woe, Sept 11th seems to perfectly fit the quote above. Radical Islam tried to "hurt" the army of Rome, the United States of America, on Sept 11th, but the world powers came together in a coalition of the willing to decide the fate of Islam. Since then Al Qaida, The Taliban, Libya, Saddam Hussein, Syria, Iran and now Pakistan have all been restrained by the War on Terror.

On September 11th, the four angels holding the winds were "about to let them go" but were restrained so God could seal the saints. Therefore the sealing must have at least started on Sept 11th, and for a sealing to take place, you need the Judgment of the Living to be occurring.

Sept 11th being the commencement of the sealing of the 144,000 and the start of the Judgment of the Living harmonizes with 1 Peter 4:17, "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God." The leaders of the church are judged first, then the rest of the professed Seventh-day Adventists, before the judgment moves onto others who have claimed the blood of Christ.

Islam has a twofold role in Bible prophecy, to punish Rome and at the same time to shelter God's people. Radical Islam, like a "wild donkey" (Gen 16:12), or an "angry horse", tried to "break loose" on 9/11 and begin to punish too soon, and were promptly restrained, but at the same as they are trying to punish Rome they were a blessing to Seventh-day Adventists by "distracting Rome" and giving us a time of "peace and safety" in which to prepare for the Sunday Law crisis.

On May 31, 1998 Pope John Paul II released a papal letter entitled "Dies Domini", telling Catholics to urge their governments to pass Sunday Laws.

"Therefore, also in the particular circumstances of our own time, Christians will naturally strive to ensure that civil legislation respects their duty to keep Sunday holy." (112)

"The Code of Canon Law of 1917 for the first time gathered this tradition into a universal law.(81) The present Code reiterates this, saying that "on Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to attend Mass".(82) This legislation has normally been understood as entailing a grave obligation: this is the teaching of the Catechism of the Catholic Church."

"In this matter, my predecessor Pope Leo XIII in his Encyclical Rerum Novarum spoke of Sunday rest as a worker's right which the State must guarantee." (110)

It seemed to a lot of Adventists that last day events were just about to begin. Then suddenly and unexpectedly, radical Islam struck the buildings in New York with explosives, and Rome's army, the United States of America, turned her attention to radical Islam.

This happened on Sept 11, 2001 at the start of the third woe, and during the first and second woe as we saw earlier, "God's providence had held in check the forces that opposed the truth. Charles V was bent on crushing the Reformation, but often as he raised his hand to strike he had been forced to turn aside the blow. Again and again the immediate destruction of all who dared to oppose themselves to Rome appeared inevitable; but at the critical moment the armies of the Turk appeared on the eastern frontier... and thus, amid the strife and tumult of nations, the Reformation had been left to strengthen and extend." {GC 197.2}

There is a quote that Adventists are well aquainted with now, in relation to 9/11. It is 9T,11. In fact, the very reference is 9/11; 9T,11. And what Bible verse did Ellen White choose to introduce this chapter? It is a verse that alludes to a tarrying time before the 2nd Coming. "Yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry." Hebrews 10:37. So is Ellen White here describing September 11th and alluding to a tarrying time? My comments are in [SQUARE BRACKETS]

"On one occasion, when in New York City, I was in the night season called upon to behold buildings rising story after story toward heaven. These buildings were warranted to be fireproof, and they were erected to glorify the owners and builders. Higher and still higher these buildings rose, and in them the most costly material was used... The scene that next passed before me was an alarm of fire. Men looked at the lofty and supposedly fire-proof buildings and said: "They are perfectly safe." But these buildings were consumed as if made of pitch. The fire engines could do nothing to stay the destruction. The firemen were unable to operate the engines...

Those who hold the reins of government... are struggling in vain to place business operations on a more secure basis... [AFTER 9/11, ELLEN WHITE DESCRIBES BANK BAILOUTS, STIMULUS PLANS, ZERO PERCENT INTEREST RATES ETC.] The world is stirred with the spirit of war. [THE WAR ON TERROR IMMEDIATELY AFTER SEPT 11TH] The prophecy of the eleventh chapter of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment. [THERE IS STILL A PROPHECY IN DAN 11 WHICH HAS NOT BEEN FULFILLED. SHE DOES NOT SAY THAT IT HAS BEEN FULFULLED AND HISTORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF. SHE SAYS IT HASN'T BEEN FULFILLED. AS WE ARE TALKING ABOUT "THE LAST CRISIS", WHICH IS THE VERY HEADING OF THE CHAPTER, WE CAN EXPECT THE UNFULFILLED PART OF DAN 11 TO BE AT THE END OF THE CHAPTER (VERSES 40-45) AS THE REST OF THE CHAPTER WE KNOW HAS BEEN FULFILLED, AND IT IS ONLY THE VERY LAST DAY EVENTS THAT ARE STILL TO BE FULFILLED, BEFORE HUMAN PROBATION CLOSES (DAN 12:1). DAN 11:40-45 IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THIS WIDER MESSAGE, AND I WOULD URGE YOU TO STUDY IT FROM SOME OF THE WEBSITES ON THE LINKS PAGE]. Soon the scenes of trouble spoken of in the prophecies will take place... Not all in this world have taken sides with the enemy against God. Not all have become disloyal. There are a faithful few who are true to God; for John writes: "Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." Revelation 14:12. Soon the battle will be waged fiercely between those who serve God and those who serve Him not. Soon everything that can be shaken will be shaken, [THE SHAKING TIME] that those things that cannot be shaken may remain... Although church and state will unite their power to compel all, "both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond," to receive the mark of the beast, yet the people of God will not receive it. Revelation 13:16. [THEN THE VERY NEXT EVENT IS THE SUNDAY LAW - THE CLOSE OF PROBATION FOR ADVENTISTS]

Returning to the theme of radical Islam creating a tarrying time to momentarily shield the people of God, Ellen White says that it is a delay in Christ's coming that causes the foolish virgins to be found without oil.

"Lingering near the bride's house are ten young women robed in white. Each carries a lighted lamp and a small flagon for oil. All are anxiously watching for the appearance of the bridegroom. But there is a delay. Hour after hour passes; the watchers become weary and fall asleep. At midnight the cry is heard, "Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him." The sleepers, suddenly awaking, spring to their feet. They see the procession moving on, bright with torches and glad with music. They hear the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. The ten maidens seize their lamps and begin to trim them, in haste to go forth. But five have neglected to fill their flasks with oil. They did not anticipate so long a delay, and they have not prepared for the emergency." {COL 405}

The Midnight Cry, "Behold the Bridegroom Cometh" is the Loud Cry in our time. So if you wake up at the Sunday Law without a perfect character, then like the foolish virgins you will be lost. The Sunday Law is the close of probation for Seventh-day Adventists in that we must already have the character of Christ when the Sunday Law is passed. At that point it will be too late to buy oil, and to do the work of character preparation. The Sunday Law crisis will reveal our character, not develop it.

"Had the people of God believed Him and been doers of His word, had they kept His commandments, the angel would not have come flying through heaven with the message to the four angels that were to let loose the winds that they should blow upon the earth crying, Hold, hold the four winds that they blow not upon the earth until I have sealed the servants of God in their foreheads. But because the people are disobedient, unthankful, unholy, as were ancient Israel, time is prolonged that all may hear the last message of mercy proclaimed with a loud voice. The Lord's work has been hindered, the sealing time delayed." Manuscript Releases, volume 15, 292.

The four winds are finally, fully released at the close of human probation, however they are released progressively. As we draw closer to the close of our probation, you will begin to see in the news the four winds getting ready to blow again. Do we see this with the stand-off between Iran and America now? All last day events are progressive, e.g. the Sunday Law, the healing of the deadly wound, the latter rain, the judgment, the close of probation, the call out from Babylon, the increase of knowledge, the formation of the image to the beast, the sealing, the Loud Cry (which "swells"), the time of trouble, ("...the time of trouble, which is to increase until the end...)." {CCh 336.5}

In the same way the four winds are progressive, and since Sept 11th, the four winds, or the angry horse has been progressively angering the nations, whether it be in the form of Al Qaieda, the Taliban, Iraq, or Iran's nuclear policy. In the next chapter we will see what Ellen White wrote about our present time, when, The Angry Horse will be Angering the Nations
